My Favorite Albums & Songs Of 2013
This post wasn’t intended to happen at first. I’d shared my favorite things that were released this year, meaning things I couldn’t stop listening/coming back to throughout the year, right here & here as a consensus — the catch was that I had to narrow my personal list down to ten songs & albums each. To avoid margins of error, I decided to help make such a list by using the following summaries located below to aid me in my choices.  I wasn’t up for publishing a end year list for It Caught My Ear originally,  my newfound logic as of now is that if something lands on here, there’s it is indeed a close favorite of mine. Well, since the deed was already done to some extent and I had put some thought into what I chose as music that has helped me throughout 2013. — I’d might as well share what I the final result came out to be. (P.S. A majority of what’s here hails from the vibrant Richmond VA music scene & multiple Leaving Records releases, both forces that I thought were amazing for the whole 365. The albums/songs listed here aren’t in any particular order.)
Again, thanks for the people who take time to check out this little site from time to time.
Albums (pictured above from left to right):
Ohbliv - Outsider Soul
"… pretty much solidified why I ‘Bliv is my favorite producer right now, I can recall many times wishing there was some sort of surgery involving having my pulse being replaced by his drums — listening to Outsider Soul is closer than I can ever get to that I guess.”

Ahnnu  - World Music
“I don’t think I as much time to meditate within a year than in 2013. World Music was the album accompanying me through several relaxing loops making for a much-needed escape.
Listen/Support
James Matthew - untitled album
"The samples that James’ chooses just talk to me, Iand what he’s able to do with them — I find it to be pleasant. Each time I listen to untitled album, it’s like another song takes a lead as my most favorite ….”
Listen/Support
DJ Harrison - DJ Harrison & Friends: Polytoned
“I was really digging Devonne’s output this year, especially this album.  It’s literally an all feel-good, RVA affair orchestrated by one genuine multi-talented dude.”
Listen/Support
Knxwledge - Anthology
“I actually bought this cassette on a gamble, I wasn’t that familiar with Knx. at the time, so a compilation of handpicked 50+ songs from his catalogue spanning from ‘09-‘13 didn’t seem like a bad place to start. Once purchased, the mp3 was sent to e-mail and then the schooling began early on why he was revered as the “bandcamp king of the beat scene”, a title that I learned that wasn’t far-fetched for him.”
Listen/Support
Tuamie - Masta Killa
“Tuamie has the “dirty sound” DOWN PAT, no joke. I can’t remember a time when my head wasn’t bobbing throughout this tape, whenever I hear his signature “Aw sh*t/T-U-A-M-I-E”, I just know it’s about to go down— whenever I wanted to hear that straight raw this year, I played some Tuamie.”
Listen/Support
Thundercat - Apocalypse
“… was a great pick me up that had fit every mood I felt this year, it didn’t which one, you name it — a great ode to a lost friend.”
Listen/Support
Tyler Brimley - Summer
”None of the beats on Summer weren’t overdone, it has a nice concept, & all what it took was  few minutes of my time to digest, so accessible — it doesn’t get any simpler than this, simplicity done right.”
Listen/Support
Lord Byron  - Dark Arts Vol. 2
“ … up-and-coming rappers weren’t my focus this year, but Byron was an huge exception for me. The guy is gifted, but what seems to gets me is that he talks the talk, but he can certainly back it up with no problem …”
Listen/Support
Dakim - DDUST REGOS
“I caught onto this one late around early December, I couldn’t find the time to mention how I felt about this one when I originally came it contact with it, but I’ll leave you with a little summary — will have something a little bit more formal in store for it soon & here’s what I’m willing to give away for now: Wow, wow … mindblowing … wow.”
